A time I failed this semester
This semester I failed pretty badly on an exam in one of my classes. I did so well on the first exam that I ended up fooling myself into a false sense of confidence when the second exam came around. The entire time leading up to this exam I was out drinking and putting off my responsibilities. I clearly did not study enough and was completely defeated after taking the exam. I knew I had screwed up.
What I learned from it
I learned that I lost sight of the truth in that everything in school is earned through hard work. When I failed to put in the hard work like I had previously with the first exam the second result was drastically different. In fact, I have already started studying for the next exam a few weeks ahead of when I normally would.
Reflection about failure
Failure is a hard pill to swallow. Usually after I fail at something I get very stressed out but try to take my mind of of whatever it is for the rest of the day. After a sleeping it of I usually reflect on what I have to do now to continue forward with what I am attempting to do. I was already okay with taking risks to further myself but after taking this class I think that I am even more likely to take risks. This class has shown how much can be learned only through failure.

Hello Chris,
ReplyDeleteI too had issues with exams, not because I was out drinking (well maybe a little, lol), but more of I really cant get a grip on statistics. Knowing that you learned from the mistake is a success in its own. Take it from a 41 yr old your life will be built upon failures and successes, you should not stress too much but take it as a learning opportunity. Good luck, check out my blog...

ReplyDeleteHi Christopher,
ReplyDeleteI cannot tell you how much i understand your situation. Not so much on the out partying part, but i generally start off paying a lot of attention in class and working very hard for the first midterm in a class and then i do so well that i convince myself that the class is actually easy when in fact what made it easy was all the preparation i had for the exam! I also forget to take into account that most classes get harder as the term progresses since the beginning is sometimes just review for the real material. Hopefully our lessons have been learn chris. Chris- I understand your situation one hundred percent. It is so annoying when you feel like you did well and will be able to succeed and then do not do well on the next exam. It is good that you ere able to learn from this mistake and prepare correctly for the following exam. I would believe that almost every college student has dealt with this struggle.
